A. Lange & Söhne puts the Triple Split in platinum

A 100-piece platinum edition gives Lange's 12-hour rattrapante chronograph a rhodié dial, grey registers and dark-brown leather.

A. Lange & Söhne has returned to the Triple Split with a new 950-platinum edition, announced on 4 September 2026. The latest version combines a rhodié-coloured dial with darker grey subdials and is limited to 100 watches.

The Triple Split first appeared in 2018, followed by a pink-gold version in 2021. This third edition keeps the established calibre and 12-hour rattrapante system, then changes the case metal and dial treatment. It is the first Triple Split in platinum.

A split-seconds display extended to hours

Most mechanical split-seconds chronographs compare intervals measured by a pair of seconds hands. The Triple Split expands that arrangement with paired minute and hour counters. It can record intermediate and comparative times for as long as 12 hours while the main chronograph continues to run.

The operation begins with the chronograph pusher at 2 o'clock. The chronograph and rattrapante hands move together until the pusher at 10 o'clock freezes the three blue rattrapante hands. Their matching chronograph hands continue, allowing the wearer to read an intermediate time. Pressing the rattrapante pusher again makes the stopped hands catch up.

There is also a flyback function. Pressing the pusher at 4 o'clock during an active measurement returns the chronograph and rattrapante hands to zero; releasing it starts a fresh measurement. That combines a very specialised comparative-timing display with a useful way to restart the chronograph quickly.

Grey registers organise ten hands

The main dial gives the central chronograph and rattrapante seconds hands the largest area. The precisely jumping minute counters sit at 4 o'clock, with the smaller hour counters at 12. Small seconds occupy the register at 8, while the UP/DOWN power-reserve indicator is placed at 6.

This edition uses a rhodié-coloured main dial and grey auxiliary dials. The rattrapante hands are blued, the chronograph hands are rhodiumed, and small red accents appear on the hour and minute counters and the power display. Luminous hour and minute hands improve the reading of ordinary time against a dial carrying ten hands in total.

A tachymeter runs around the outer edge. It can be used to calculate average speed across a measured distance of 1,000 metres. The scale adds more information, but it also forms a clear boundary around the silver and grey display.

Calibre L132.1 controls the six timing hands

The manually wound L132.1 manufacture calibre has a 55-hour power reserve and 567 components. Its switching works coordinate three chronograph hands and three rattrapante hands across seconds, minutes and hours. The movement also has a disengagement system designed to limit the rate disturbance caused by friction when the rattrapante seconds and minute mechanisms are stopped.

A sapphire-crystal caseback reveals the movement. The levers, springs and rockers have straight-grained upper surfaces and bevelled edges. Five gold chatons are secured by screws on bridges made from untreated German silver, and the balance cock is engraved by hand.

The case measures 43.2mm in diameter and 15.6mm high. Those are substantial dimensions, but the mechanism is substantial too. A triple rattrapante, flyback, jumping minute counter, 12-hour totaliser and power display all occupy the same movement and dial.

That combination permits more than a single lap comparison. The rattrapante hands can be released to catch the running chronograph hands, then stopped again for another reading, while the paired hour counters extend the exercise well beyond the minute-long range of a conventional split-seconds display.

Platinum outside, dark-brown leather below

The cool colour of the 950-platinum case matches the rhodié dial, while the darker registers and blue hands create the separation needed for each group of readings. A dark-brown alligator leather strap softens that mostly monochrome scheme. It closes with a platinum deployant buckle.

A. Lange & Söhne will present the new edition at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace during the first weekend of September. The watch arrives as a new material and colour version, not as a replacement for the Triple Split's existing mechanical architecture.

The defining change is easy to identify: platinum replaces the gold cases used for the two previous Triple Split editions. The defining reason for the model remains its ability to compare elapsed times across seconds, minutes and hours, all the way to 12 hours, while retaining a flyback reset.
