Casio puts a carbon core inside the G-Steel GST-W1000

The three-watch family combines a steel exterior with Tough Solar, Multiband 6, Bluetooth and 200-metre water resistance.

Casio has introduced the G-Shock G-Steel GST-W1000, a solar and radio-controlled analogue model built around a carbon core. Announced on 9 September 2026, the family opens with black, blue and green dial references in 50mm by 45.5mm cases. Each combines a stainless-steel exterior and bracelet with Carbon Core Guard construction, sapphire crystal, Bluetooth phone connection and 200 metres of water resistance. Release is scheduled for October, with Japanese prices starting at ¥110,000 including tax.

Carbon moves inside the steel shell

The case and bezel combine bio-based carbon and stainless steel. Carbon Core Guard construction forms the internal structure, while steel supplies the visible bezel and bracelet expected of the G-Steel line. The result measures 13.2mm thick and weighs 138 grams. Those figures still describe a substantial watch, but the architecture separates the job of absorbing shocks from the metal surfaces that establish its more conventional, all-bracelet appearance.

All three references share the same layout. GST-W1000D-1A uses a black dial, GST-W1000AD-2A uses blue, and GST-W1000D-3A uses green. The blue model adds black ion plating to the bezel. A screw-lock crown sits between protective shoulders, with pushers operating the subsidiary displays. Applied hour markers and luminous material support low-light reading, while an LED can illuminate the dial when the hands and markers are not enough.

Two paths to accurate time

Multiband 6 receives radio time-calibration signals in supported regions. Bluetooth adds Smartphone Link through Casio's app, allowing automatic time adjustment and control of settings from a phone. Either system can keep the hands aligned without routine manual intervention, but reception depends on local transmitter coverage, radio conditions and phone connectivity. Casio also quotes accuracy of plus or minus 15 seconds per month when the watch is not synchronised.

World time covers 38 time zones across 26 cities, with a home-city and world-time swap for travel. The watch also includes a one-second stopwatch, countdown timer and daily alarm. A full automatic calendar is programmed through 2099. The analogue display distributes these functions among hands, subdials and indicators. The app handles settings that would be awkward to enter at the crown or squeeze onto a small digital screen.

Tough Solar handles the power

Casio's Tough Solar system converts light into electrical energy. The international product page gives an operating time of about five months from a full charge under normal use without further light exposure. Casio's regional pages give different figures for the longer power-saving duration, so no single extended figure is used here. A battery-level indicator makes the remaining reserve visible. Solar charging is especially useful because Bluetooth, radio reception, alarms and the LED all draw power beyond driving the hands.

The crystal is sapphire with an anti-reflective coating. Water resistance is rated to 200 metres and the watch retains G-Shock's shock-resistant construction. Those specifications make the GST-W1000 suitable for swimming and hard daily use, although Casio's water rating should not be confused with a claim that every control can be operated underwater.

A G-Steel built around legibility

The launch photography shows a restrained approach to colour. Black, blue or green is concentrated on the dial and chapter ring, while the bracelet and most of the case remain steel. The three-register arrangement has enough contrast to separate local time, world time and status indications. It is busier than a three-hand watch, but the hands remain the dominant elements rather than disappearing into a fully exposed carbon texture.

The GST-W1000 combines shock protection, solar charging and synchronisation in a stainless-steel bracelet watch. At 45.5mm across, it will not disappear under every cuff, but the 13.2mm thickness is the number most likely to affect wear. Trying one on will matter more than comparing the 50mm vertical dimension in isolation.

At 138 grams, sizing the steel bracelet correctly will be important for stability on the wrist. The solar system removes one common reason to open the case, while radio and Bluetooth correction reduce the need to use the crown after initial setup.

G-Shock G-Steel GST-W1000 price and availability

Casio says the GST-W1000D-1A, GST-W1000AD-2A and GST-W1000D-3A will be released in October 2026. In Japan, the black and green references are ¥110,000 each including tax, while the blue GST-W1000AD-2A is ¥115,500 including tax. Australian pricing and availability have not been announced. Until Casio Australia lists the range, those Japanese figures should not be treated as local retail prices.
