Citizen marks 50 years of Eco-Drive with two colour-shifting ATTESA models

The Green Flash and Purple Aurora editions pair Super Titanium cases with solar GPS Calibre F950, limited to 1,500 of each.

Citizen is marking 50 years of Eco-Drive with two limited ATTESA Satellite Wave GPS watches inspired by green flash and aurora colours. Announced on 9 September 2026, references CC4084-83Z and CC4085-81Z use the brand's light-powered Calibre F950 in 44.6mm Super Titanium cases. Each colour is limited to 1,500 pieces worldwide and is due in October, with Citizen projecting a price of about US$2,515 rather than publishing a final Australian list price.

One platform, two atmospheric palettes

The Green Flash edition uses green around the dial and city ring, offset by purple subdials and yellow-gold-coloured details. Its bezel receives Citizen's Duratect Amber Yellow surface treatment. The Purple Aurora model reverses the emphasis, putting violet and blue across the dial with pink-gold-coloured details and Duratect Pink on the bezel. Both sit on dark cases and bracelets treated with Duratect DLC, so the colour remains concentrated around the display rather than the entire watch.

Citizen describes both dials as drawing on atmospheric light effects. That premise is carried by colour rather than an additional complication. Underneath, the watches share the same case, movement, bracelet and GPS-controlled display architecture. Choosing between them is therefore a question of palette, not performance. The green reference is CC4084-83Z, while the purple reference is CC4085-81Z, an important distinction for anyone registering interest before stock reaches retailers.

Calibre F950 sets itself by satellite

Calibre F950 can receive time signals from GPS satellites and adjust to the appropriate time zone. It also offers world time, a perpetual calendar and a 1/20-second chronograph that can record up to 24 hours. Citizen rates the quartz movement to within plus or minus five seconds per month when it is not receiving a signal. That independent accuracy matters because satellite reception depends on location, sky visibility and operating conditions.

Eco-Drive charges the watch from light, avoiding routine battery replacement. Citizen lists up to five years of operation from a full charge when the power-save function is engaged. A light-level indicator and power-reserve display help make that energy system visible to the wearer. The anniversary connection is therefore functional as well as cosmetic: the watches use one of Citizen's most capable solar GPS calibres rather than placing a commemorative dial on a conventional battery movement.

Super Titanium keeps the case manageable

Both cases measure 44.6mm across and 15.4mm thick. Those are substantial dimensions, but Super Titanium reduces mass compared with an equivalent steel construction and provides a hardened surface through Citizen's Duratect treatments. The bracelet is also Super Titanium with Duratect DLC. A dual-spherical sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating, while the case is rated to 10 bar of water resistance.

The dial has to organise local time, chronograph registers, city information and the solar system's status. Applied markers and luminous treatment support basic reading in low light, while the coloured rings separate the anniversary theme from the central hands. The black base is useful discipline. Without it, the combination of green, purple, yellow and pink accents could overwhelm the functional indications that distinguish Calibre F950 from a simpler three-hand ATTESA.

The edition size is 3,000 watches in total

Citizen will make 1,500 examples of each reference, for a combined run of 3,000. The edition is global rather than reserved for one market. That means local allocation may be smaller than the headline number suggests, and the projected US dollar figure should not be converted into an assumed Australian retail price. Taxes, distribution and final market pricing can all change the amount paid when the watches arrive in October.

The pair also provides a cleaner anniversary proposition than a single highly scarce piece. Each model is limited, but buyers can select the colour treatment while receiving identical mechanics. The solar GPS calibre, five-year power-save rating and titanium construction are the durable parts of the package. The green-flash and purple-aurora stories identify the editions without changing their technical basis.

For travellers, the GPS system is the practical centre. It can identify and correct the time zone without depending on a paired phone, while the perpetual calendar removes the usual end-of-month adjustment. Owners still need a clear enough view of the sky for reception. When that is unavailable, the quoted monthly accuracy keeps the watch useful until it can synchronise again.
