Gagà Laboratorio makes the Labormatic lighter in titanium

The 100-piece Superleggero keeps the mechanical digital-hour display but changes the 42mm case to Grade 5 titanium.

Gagà Laboratorio has introduced the Labormatic Superleggero, a 100-piece version of its mixed digital-and-analogue watch in Grade 5 titanium. At Geneva Watch Days, Monochrome's coverage dated 31 August 2026 presented reference LMTT-001 with the Labormatic's 42mm format and automatic La Joux-Perret G100 movement. The edition changes the case material and adds an elastic technical-fabric strap. Gagà Laboratorio lists it at CHF 4,700 excluding value-added tax and says shipping will begin in October 2026. The reference builds on the display architecture already used by the Labormatic line.

A 42mm case in Grade 5 titanium

Superleggero means superlight, and the name identifies the edition's central material change. Grade 5 titanium forms the case, replacing the steel construction used for other Labormatic references. The case measures 42mm across and 13.3mm thick. Sandblasted top surfaces meet brushing on the lower lugs and case middle, with broad, flared lugs around a rotund bezel. The 12 o'clock crown has rounded rivets and a grey steel cabochon (Monochrome).

The front crystal is double-curved sapphire with anti-reflective coating. A second sapphire crystal in the case back shows the movement and its customised rotor. Water resistance is rated to 50 metres. Gagà Laboratorio pairs the case with a grey elastic technical-fabric strap and a laser-engraved steel buckle. The strap attaches between the short lugs and follows the case's predominantly grey palette. Its woven surface contrasts with the hard case and crystal materials, while the buckle repeats the steel already used for the crown cabochon. Sapphire at both front and back gives separate views of the dial construction and automatic winding system.

Digital hours, analogue minutes and rotating seconds

The display separates time across three indications. A numeral aperture near 12 o'clock shows the current hour, accompanied by a red indicator. The yellow central hand points to minutes on a grey-blue track, and a rotating matte-grey central disc provides the seconds indication. These displays are mechanically driven, despite the digital presentation of the hour. They divide the dial into clear functional areas: hours at the top, minutes around the perimeter and seconds at the centre (Monochrome). Reading the watch therefore moves from one fixed aperture to a conventional hand and then to the rotating central cap.

Four arched, laser-engraved sapphire sections expose the hour disc beneath protective grilles. Yellow even-numbered hours sit against a dotted black-and-white field, with smaller adjacent numerals supplying a broader view of the sequence. Grey and black parts establish the base palette, while yellow marks the hour numerals, minute hand and selected dial details (Monochrome). The exposed portions make the moving hour system visible beyond the main numeral aperture. Each visible layer therefore contributes either an indication, a numeral sequence or a frame around the mechanism. The Superleggero uses titanium without adding a separate complication to the existing Labormatic display.

La Joux-Perret's automatic G100 provides a 68-hour power reserve. Its customised, openworked and charcoal-coated rotor accompanies 24 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 4 Hz (Monochrome). Gagà Laboratorio specifies that the rotor runs on a ceramic ball bearing. The power reserve extends beyond two full days. The movement supports the hour aperture, conventional minute hand and rotating seconds display within one mechanical arrangement, keeping all three indications connected to the same automatic calibre. The sapphire back makes the customised winding component visible without changing those timekeeping functions.

Production is limited to 100 pieces. Gagà Laboratorio lists the Superleggero at CHF 4,700 excluding value-added tax, with shipping scheduled to begin in October 2026. Sales will run through the brand's website and selected retail partners (Monochrome). The price is pre-tax, and October marks the beginning of shipping rather than an order deadline. Reference LMTT-001 comes on one grey technical-fabric strap, with the 100-piece limit applying to the edition.

I think the Superleggero is most convincing when read as a narrow material edit rather than a new model family. The 42mm dimensions, divided time display and G100 remain the recognisable parts of the Labormatic, while titanium and fabric address the physical construction around them. Its lightweight theme refers to Italian coachbuilding, racing machinery and performance cars (Monochrome), giving the name a specific design context without turning the watch into a chronograph. The 100-piece limit and CHF 4,700 pre-tax price keep the proposition specialist. This is not a lower-priced entry model or a new complication; it asks buyers to value the material change, surface treatment and restricted run. For me, that is clearer than changing the movement and claiming an entirely new watch, because the buyer can see exactly where this edition differs. Its case rests on whether those changes sharpen an already unconventional display enough to justify the limited execution.
