The Grönefeld brothers’ accessible brand adds a hand-wound Horologium at €2,390

Small seconds, a La Joux-Perret G100, and 188 pieces per variant. Orders open on 13 August.

Grøne Oldenzaal, the accessible brand Tim and Bart Grönefeld set up in 2024, has introduced the Horologium: a manual-winding mechanical watch with small seconds, priced at 2,390 euros excluding VAT and limited to 188 pieces per variant.

Two variants, two brothers

The watch comes in two versions, which Grøne labels Quirky and Classic. The brand describes them as aligned with the personalities of each of the two brothers, which is a more interesting idea than a straightforward colour choice and gives the pair a reason to exist beyond filling out a page.

Grøne also notes this is the first of its three-hand watches to get a see-through caseback, alongside what it calls more refined movement finishing.

The watch

The movement is a hand-wound version of the La Joux-Perret G100, running at 4Hz with roughly 60 hours of reserve.

The defining change is at the dial. Centre seconds give way to a small seconds counter, which sits on a raised, diamond-cut platform finished three separate ways: polished, circular brushed and sandblasted.

The caseband is satin-brushed, which Monochrome notes gives the impression of a slimmer case, set against polished bezels and caseback. The lugs curve downward and have been reshaped to sit across a wider range of wrists.

Why it is interesting

The Grönefeld brothers build some of the most admired watches in the independent world at prices most people will only ever read about. A hand-wound dress watch under 2,500 euros with their involvement is genuinely unusual, and Monochrome's comparison to what MB&F have done with M.A.D.Editions is a fair one.

The caution is straightforward. The G100 is a supplied movement, not a Grönefeld one, and nobody should expect the finishing of the main line at a fifteenth of the price. The design thinking is where the family resemblance lives, and adding a display back to show the finishing suggests Grøne knows that is what it is being judged on.

Orders open on 13 August 2026 at 3pm Central European time through the brand's own site. One hundred and eighty-eight pieces per variant with a fixed window is a structure that tends to sell out.
