Jack Mason puts the day over the date in its new Canton pair

The rebuilt Canton Day-Date uses a top-grade Sellita movement, an under-crystal magnifier and two versions split between steel bracelet and strap.

The day window is usually where a practical watch begins to lose its nerve. It gets abbreviated, tucked beside the date or dropped entirely so the dial can stay neat. Jack Mason has gone the other way with its rebuilt Canton Day-Date, giving the day a full-width window at 12 o'clock and balancing it with the date at six. The layout is shared by two related collections: a bracelet-equipped Canton Day-Date and a brighter, strap-equipped Canton Day-Date Resort.

Both use the same 41 mm stainless-steel case, measuring 12 mm thick and 48 mm from lug to lug. Those numbers keep the new Canton in modern sports-watch territory, but the opposing calendar windows give it the order of a much dressier watch. A magnifier sits beneath the sapphire crystal rather than on top of it, enlarging the date without leaving the familiar external bump. It is a tidier piece of industrial design and one less edge to catch while the watch is being worn.

One case, two different jobs

The standard Canton Day-Date leans into texture. Its dial is finely milled with a guilloché pattern, while the stainless-steel bracelet gets a quick-adjust clasp for small changes through the day. The Resort uses a patterned dial, sporty strap and deployant clasp instead. On paper, the difference sounds cosmetic. On the wrist, it should decide the whole character: the bracelet model reads as the everyday all-rounder and the Resort as the more relaxed, warm-weather version.

Jack Mason gives the standard watch a hardness coating and describes the Resort's treatment as scratch resistant. Both offer 150 metres of water resistance. That combination matters more than the calendar complication might suggest. The Day-Date format can look formal, but this is not a delicate office watch wearing a sporty case for effect. Sapphire front and back, a useful depth rating and the protected steel exteriors make the Canton pair credible daily watches, whichever version is chosen.

The shared 20 mm lug width also leaves buyers with a straightforward route to other straps. That is particularly useful for the standard watch, whose case can move from the supplied steel bracelet to leather without requiring an unusual size. The Resort already comes on its sporty strap, but its deployant clasp is a more substantial solution than a basic pin buckle. These are small decisions, though together they make the two versions feel designed around different use rather than separated by dial colour alone.

A Swiss day-date with a Texan signature

Inside is the top-grade Sellita SW240-1 automatic movement. Jack Mason regulates it to a stated accuracy of plus or minus five seconds per day and uses Incabloc shock protection. The movement can be seen through the sapphire case back, where the usual winding mass gives way to a custom rotor carrying the brand's longhorn mark. Final assembly takes place in the United States, a meaningful detail for a Dallas company that has increasingly made its local identity part of the product rather than leaving it to the marketing copy.

The SW240-1 is a sensible choice for this design because the movement natively supports the paired day and date display. There is no need to bolt a calendar module onto an unrelated calibre or make the case thicker to accommodate one. More exotic mechanics might earn a louder launch, but the familiar automatic architecture suit a watch meant to handle regular wear. The attraction is in how Jack Mason has framed those functions, not in pretending they are rare.

There is also something pleasingly unfussy about the symmetry. Day at the top, date at the bottom and time in between is immediately readable. The under-crystal magnifier strengthens the lower window without turning it into an applied ornament, while the broad day aperture has enough room to spell out the information it carries. It is a layout that earns its space through use, then lets the dial finishing distinguish one collection from the other.

Jack Mason Canton Day-Date pricing and availability

The Canton Day-Date is priced at US$1,849, while the Canton Day-Date Resort is US$1,769. Jack Mason says the collection becomes available on 28 August 2026 at 9:00 am Eastern time. The standard Day-Date is listed for immediate dispatch at launch, while Resort deliveries are expected to begin in the week of 21 September. That staggered timing is worth noting before choosing purely on price. The Resort costs less, but the bracelet model is the one intended to arrive first.

Neither version is inexpensive for a Sellita-powered watch, so the case finishing, calendar execution and bracelet or strap hardware have to carry real weight. The specification at least gives the proposition a coherent shape: top-grade movement, useful water resistance, hardened steel and a case that is neither oversized nor especially slim. The Canton Day-Date is not trying to disguise what powers it. Its argument is that familiar machinery can still feel specific when the surrounding choices are made with purpose.
