Mido's Multifort TV 28 Quartz is a 6.9mm rectangle from CHF 490
Mido has shrunk its TV-shaped Multifort into a 6.9mm quartz rectangle, five references, starting at CHF 490.

The TV-shaped Multifort has been in Mido's catalogue for a while now, most visibly as the Big Date automatic at CHF 1,260. The new Multifort TV 28 Quartz is that same cushioned rectangle shrunk down, for a good deal less, and the figure Mido puts first is 6.9mm average thickness. Thin is hard to do and thin costs money. Plenty of quartz watches at this money sit closer to ten.
The case measures 27.6mm long by 28mm wide, which is where the slimness starts to matter. A big case can swallow a bit of height without anyone noticing. Something this small has nowhere to hide it.
Steel, sapphire and 72 grams
It's 316L stainless steel and the whole watch comes in at 72 grams. The crystal is sapphire with a single anti-reflective coating on the underside, which is the side to put it on. It kills the glare between glass and dial, and there's no outer layer waiting to get scuffed off against a doorframe.
Water resistance is 5 bar, so 50 metres. Fine for a swim, not for diving. Lug width is 15mm and the bracelet is quick release, so it comes off without tools. Mido reckons the size suits every wrist, which is the tactful way of saying small.
A blued hand on a CHF 490 quartz
Reference M049.110.11.263.00 gets an ivory dial, Roman numerals and a date window at six o'clock. Six is the harder position to lay out on a rectangle and the better one to look at, because the dial stays symmetrical.
There's a blued hand as well, which Mido makes a point of on the product page. Blued steel at this price is a small bit of showing off, and it's welcome.
The movement is quartz with a date, running off a Renata 364 cell. That's a 1.55-volt silver oxide battery you can buy anywhere, which counts for more than it sounds on a 28mm dress watch that might sit in a drawer for a couple of years.
Where the five references land
Mido's own store lists five, at CHF 490, CHF 520, CHF 520, CHF 590 and CHF 620. The spread covers different dials and case finishes, including a rose gold toned one.
The ivory Roman at CHF 490 is the pick. Cheapest, most legible, and Roman numerals suit a rectangle in a way batons never quite manage. Nobody has said what it'll cost here yet, so francs are all we've got to go on.
