Rolex gives the Day-Date 40 a new gold alloy

Jubilee Gold brings yellow, grey and pink tones to the Day-Date 40, paired with light green aventurine and ten baguette-cut diamonds.

Rolex has introduced a Day-Date 40 in Jubilee Gold, a new 18 ct gold alloy developed and produced in-house. Announced on 15 September 2026, the watch pairs the unfamiliar metal colour with a light green aventurine dial, baguette-cut diamond hour markers and the model's established President bracelet.

Jubilee Gold changes the familiar Day-Date palette

Rolex describes Jubilee Gold as combining tender yellow, warm grey and soft pink tones. That combination places it between the brand's established yellow, white and Everose gold options without reproducing any one of them. The metal is used across the 40 mm case, fluted bezel and President bracelet, so its colour is the dominant part of the watch rather than a small accent.

Developing an alloy in-house gives Rolex control over its colour and the way the finished surfaces respond to polishing. The Day-Date is an appropriate place to introduce it because the collection has always been made only in precious metals. There is no steel reference to set the baseline; metal choice is part of the model's identity.

The fluted bezel keeps the strongest traditional Day-Date cue around the dial. Alternating polished and brushed surfaces on the President bracelet then give the new alloy several ways to reflect light. The watch remains recognisable from its case and bracelet before the dial is close enough to read.

Aventurine supplies variation that metal cannot

The light green dial is cut from aventurine, a natural stone in the quartz family. Its inclusions mean no two cut dials will present exactly the same pattern. Rolex adds ten baguette-cut diamonds for the hour markers, maintaining a restrained geometry even though both the dial and markers are decorative materials.

Green is a deliberate counterpoint to the alloy. Jubilee Gold contains yellow, grey and pink tones, while the cool dial moves the centre of the watch away from an entirely warm composition. The stone's fine variation also prevents the large open areas of the Day-Date dial from looking flat.

The familiar calendar arrangement remains unchanged in principle. The day appears in full through the curved aperture at 12 o'clock, and the date sits beneath a Cyclops lens at three. Rolex offers the day indication in 26 languages across the wider Day-Date range. On this reference, those practical displays sit above a dial whose material is the visual priority.

The sapphire crystal has an anti-reflective coating and the Cyclops lens enlarges the date. The 40 mm Oyster case is rated to 100 metres. Its screw-down Twinlock crown uses a double waterproofness system, and the case back is secured with the brand's specialist tooling.

Calibre 3255 remains the mechanical foundation

Rolex uses calibre 3255, the same movement family closely associated with the modern Day-Date 40. The self-winding movement displays the day, date, hours, minutes and seconds, and delivers approximately 70 hours of power reserve. A Perpetual rotor winds the movement as the watch is worn.

The movement includes the Chronergy escapement, made from nickel-phosphorus for resistance to strong magnetic fields. Its blue Parachrom hairspring is also designed to cope with magnetic fields, temperature changes and shocks. Paraflex shock absorbers support the oscillator, and a Rolex overcoil helps maintain regularity in different positions.

For 2026, Rolex says its Superlative Chronometer certification has been strengthened with additional criteria covering magnetic resistance, reliability and sustainability. The existing finished-watch tests also cover precision, waterproofness, self-winding and power reserve. Rolex specifies a cased-watch precision tolerance of minus two to plus two seconds per day.

Those details do not make the Jubilee Gold Day-Date a new movement story. Calibre 3255 is the stable platform beneath a material-led release. That continuity is useful: the alloy and stone dial alter the watch's appearance without introducing an untested mechanical proposition at the same time.

The President bracelet completes the metal study

The three-piece President bracelet was created for the Day-Date in 1956 and remains restricted to the Day-Date and precious-metal Datejust references. Here it is made entirely from Jubilee Gold and closes with a concealed Crownclasp.

Rolex installs ceramic inserts inside the links to reduce wear and support flexibility. That construction is mostly invisible in use, but it matters on a bracelet with many articulated precious-metal surfaces. The hidden clasp also keeps the sequence of links visually continuous around the wrist.

Rolex Day-Date 40 Jubilee Gold price and availability

Rolex announced the Jubilee Gold Day-Date 40 on 15 September 2026. The official Australian product page lists reference 228235JG at A$109,900. Availability still needs to be confirmed with an authorised Rolex retailer.

The specification leaves little doubt about its position. A proprietary 18 ct gold alloy, natural aventurine dial, ten baguette diamonds and full precious-metal President bracelet put this reference at the more elaborate end of the Day-Date catalogue. Its significance is the arrival of a fourth Rolex gold colour, expressed across one of the brand's most metal-dependent designs.
