Seestern's US$259 S474 GMT runs a Peacock movement almost nobody's handled
Sugess is selling the Seestern S474 GMT for US$259 with a Peacock SL3032 inside, a movement almost nobody outside China has handled.

The interesting part of the new Seestern S474 GMT is not the US$259. Cheap GMTs stopped being news a while ago. It is what Sugess has put inside this one, a Peacock SL3032, a movement you have almost certainly never handled unless you live in China. Sugess listed it on its own store this week.
The money buys 42mm of steel, a sapphire crystal, a bracelet and an automatic. Whether that reads as a bargain or a warning comes down to how you feel about Chinese watchmaking.
The SL3032, and the spec Sugess will not print
Peacock is a Chinese movement maker with a long history and next to no profile outside China. Sugess describes the SL3032 as automatic winding and leaves it there. Power reserve, not stated. Jewel count, not stated.
There is a 24-hour hand, a date and a directional bezel carrying a 24-hour scale to read the second zone against. What the listing never addresses is whether the local hour hand jumps on its own, which for a travel GMT is the whole question. A jumping hour hand lets you reset local time without stopping the watch. One that does not, does not. Until Sugess says either way, treat it as unresolved.
Sugess quotes the thickness twice
The case is 316L steel, 42mm across, 47mm lug to lug, 20mm between the lugs. The quoted thickness is 11mm, and then Sugess turns around and says 13mm once you count the crystal. Plenty of brands print the flattering number and let the sapphire sit proud of it where you would never think to check. This one printed both. Small thing, worth a nod.
Sapphire crystal, 100 metres of water resistance, steel bracelet. The hands and indices get what Sugess calls super luminous treatment, with no word anywhere on whose lume it is.
Two names on the listing, three colours in the range
The brand field reads "Sugess / Seestern", which stops being confusing the moment you give up trying to resolve it. The two names travel together, the watch sells out of Sugess's storefront either way, and the dial says Seestern.
Black, white, and a light blue that comes out closer to teal in the brand's own photos. All three are US$259 and all three come on the bracelet. US dollars is the only currency the checkout speaks, so there's no A$ figure to quote.
What else US$259 gets you
At that money you are looking at a shelf full of microbrand GMTs running Seiko's NH34, with the Seiko 5 GMT a rung above them. The Seestern's case for itself is the Peacock, a movement barely anyone outside China has worn. That is the appeal and it is also the risk.
Buy it if a Peacock GMT sounds like fun and the service question does not bother you. If you want a GMT that will still be fixable in ten years, the Seiko is the safer buy.
