Studio Underd0g makes the 02SERIES glow green

The Mantis brings a seven-layer full-lume dial and a 63-hour Sellita movement to a nine-hour ordering window.

A green field watch that glows like emergency signage is a natural fit for Studio Underd0g. This one fades from pale green at the centre to a darker perimeter in daylight, then reverses its hierarchy after dark as the dial base lights up beneath black markings. It is the first special edition built on the second-generation platform, combining the revised case and longer-running Swiss movement in the Studio Underd0g 02SERIES Mantis.

Seven layers of Super-LumiNova X1 GL C3 cover a brass base, with a one-millimetre sapphire upper dial placed above it. Dark Arabic numerals, a black minute track and the refined Gen2 hands remain legible against the glow. The transparent upper layer adds physical depth without dividing the face into decorative zones. In daylight it supports the green gradient; at night the thick luminous application becomes the background against which the fixed black indications are read.

Seven layers after dark

Gen2 brings finer dial printing as well as a revised handset and minute track. Those are small changes beside the luminous colour, but they determine whether the watch remains useful once the glow begins to fade. The black markings are read against pale green during the day and against a bright phosphorescent field at night. The same layout therefore has to hold its contrast in two different conditions while the transparent sheet and luminous base change the apparent depth behind it.

The field-watch outline remains simple. The stainless-steel case is 37.5mm wide, 46mm from lug to lug and 11.5mm thick. Water resistance is 100 metres. An 18mm lug opening tapers to 16mm at the signed pin buckle on the Strap Tailor leather strap. Those dimensions keep the full-lume construction inside the same compact proportions used by the wider second-generation 02SERIES on the wrist, without asking the dial construction to dictate a larger case.

On the back, Studio Underd0g returns to the jellyfish imagery used across the 02SERIES. Its natural bioluminescence links the caseback design to the new dial without adding another visual joke to the front. The second-generation changes also appear mechanically, with the earlier architecture replaced by a manual-winding Sellita SW200-2 M Power+ movement. The display stays to hours, minutes and seconds, avoiding a date window that would interrupt the luminous surface.

A longer-running manual movement

The Sellita runs at 28,800 vibrations an hour and offers 63 hours of power reserve. Studio Underd0g quotes regulation to minus seven or plus seven seconds a day. Manual winding suits a watch with no date and a display intended to be examined closely, though the longer reserve changes the routine. Wind it on Friday morning and it should still be running well into Sunday night, reducing the chance that a missed morning requires a reset.

The movement upgrade also lets the Mantis keep the compact proportions of the 02SERIES. There is no automatic rotor to add height, and the simple display avoids correctors or setting restrictions. Its 63-hour reserve adds 21 hours to the 42-hour figure of the first-generation 02SERIES. The owner still gets the deliberate act of winding, but missing one morning need not mean resetting the watch later that day. That is a practical change, not merely a larger number in the specification table.

Studio Underd0g will accept online orders for nine hours on 1 September 2026, from 3pm until midnight British Summer Time, before discontinuing the reference. For Australian buyers, that window runs from midnight to 9am AEST on 2 September. A small allocation will be reserved for visitors to the D0ghouse showroom. The ordering period is the only production limit the brand has published, so there is no numbered edition quantity to report.

Reference 02MAHE is priced at £875 on the British storefront and A$1,650 on the Australian storefront. These are the brand's local prices, not currency conversions, and customs duties or other local taxes remain the buyer's responsibility where applicable. Standard, small and large strap sizes are offered at the same price. The watch is unavailable before the window opens by design, and Studio Underd0g says it will not return after the nine hours end.

The fixed markings matter

The product imagery shows the dial in daylight, full darkness and fading light. In every state, the black hands, numerals and outer minute track remain fixed while the green background changes intensity. The legibility survives because those reading surfaces do not change with the glow. That consistency keeps seven layers of lume from becoming the only idea. The upgraded calibre, compact dimensions and jellyfish caseback place the colour within the second-generation range, while the short ordering window gives this specific treatment a clear boundary.
