Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin recolour the Unfrogettable

Turquoise and Brown editions give the 40mm titanium regulator two moods, each limited to 178 pieces.

Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin have brought back the Unfrogettable regulator in two colours: Turquoise and Brown. Each is limited to 178 pieces and priced at CHF 4,500 excluding tax. The 40mm Grade 5 titanium case, crown at 12 o'clock and rotating-eye regulator display remain, but the colours give the frog-faced watch two clearly different expressions.

This is still a character watch rather than a conventional dial with a novelty print. The regulator layout makes the creature work: an hour display at nine o'clock and running seconds at three form the eyes, while the central minute hand crosses the face. The crown doubles as the frog's crown. Remove that mechanical arrangement and much of the joke disappears.

Turquoise sharpens the face

Reference 85340AA03.BVA192 uses a light turquoise grained base with darker turquoise hour and seconds rings. The minute track shifts from blue-green in its upper half to violet below. Rhodium-treated discs and hands keep the display cool, while green Super-LumiNova gives the eyes and minute hand their low-light accents.

The black Himeji Kurozan leather strap has violet stitching at the lugs and a violet rabbit-leather lining. That stitching is a small but useful continuation of the dial colour. The crown remains polished titanium, so the metalwork does not interrupt the cooler palette.

Turquoise is the more immediately surreal of the pair. It emphasises the frog identity without falling back on bright cartoon green, and the violet lower track adds a second colour that becomes clearer on close inspection.

Brown turns the same watch nocturnal

Reference 85340AA04.BVA193 changes the grained base to light brown, with dark-brown counters and a minute track split between dark brown and ochre. The discs, minute hand and crown receive a warm 5N treatment, producing a gold-like contrast against the titanium case.

Its Kurozan strap remains black outside and inside, without the turquoise model's violet stitching and lining. That makes the Brown edition the quieter watch at a distance, although its eyes and crown still prevent it from passing as conventional.

The design also shows how much expression can be changed without altering the regulator architecture. Cooler rhodium surfaces make the Turquoise watch appear wide awake. Warm 5N details and earth tones make the Brown version look heavier and more guarded. The case, movement and display positions do not need to move.

Titanium, sapphire and Japanese leather

The case is 40mm in diameter and made from Grade 5 titanium, alternating satin-finished planes with polished curves. Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment is used at the front, while a transparent back provides a view of the movement. Water resistance is 5 bar, or 50 metres.

Both straps use Himeji Kurozan leather from Japan. The calf leather is hand rubbed, naturally tanned and finished with Urushi lacquer, creating a surface that resembles dark armour. A Grade 5 titanium pin buckle and quick-release spring bars complete the attachment.

It is an unusually specific material choice for a whimsical watch. The strap's hard-looking, textured finish gives the creature a darker edge and links the design to the armour reference that has accompanied the Unfrogettable concept. More importantly, it is not a generic black strap added after the dial was finished.

A regulator that looks back

Inside is a Sellita SW266-1 automatic regulator movement with a minimum 38-hour power reserve. The movement separates the time displays rather than stacking conventional hands at the centre. Hours sit at nine, seconds at three and the arrow-shaped minute hand remains central.

On an ordinary regulator, that arrangement is intended to make each indication easy to distinguish. Here it also supplies the face. The pupils rotate as the hour and seconds displays move, allowing the expression to change throughout the day. A small Louis Erard and Konstantin Chaykin signature sits at six o'clock.

The underlying calibre is practical rather than exotic, which helps explain the watch's appeal. Most of the creative work is in the case, dial, display treatment and strap. Owners are not being asked to accept an experimental movement simply to obtain the character.

Price and availability

Louis Erard prices both the Turquoise and Brown editions at CHF 4,500 excluding tax. Each colour is limited to 178 pieces and was available through the brand's online store when checked.

There is no official Australian-dollar price. Louis Erard's country selector includes Australia but retains Swiss-franc pricing, so converting the figure would ignore tax, import and payment costs. Australian buyers should treat CHF 4,500 excluding tax as the authoritative starting point.

The two editions were announced on 21 September 2026. Their specifications are shared, making the choice almost entirely visual: Turquoise for the brighter, more electric face; Brown for the warmer palette and 5N accents.
