MONOGRIIS gives its 36 mm RESTA a deep green Midori dial

The Osaka maker pairs a sunray green dial with embossed leather on a Japanese-assembled 36 mm watch priced at A$462.

  • MONOGRIIS announced the RESTA Midori R50M-001 as a green-dial extension of its existing 36 mm Japanese-assembled mechanical dress-watch range.
  • A sunray green dial, gold-tone details and a matching lizard-embossed leather strap distinguish the Midori from earlier RESTA colours.
  • The brand lists the Midori at A$462 in Australia, ¥49,500 in Japan and US$350 in America through its regional storefronts.

A green dial is rarely just one green. Tilt a sunray finish and the centre can brighten while the edge falls towards black, which makes colour a more useful design choice than a flat swatch suggests. Osaka-based MONOGRIIS has put that effect into a new version of its compact RESTA dress watch. The company's dated 25 September announcement calls it the RESTA Midori R50M-001, a green-dial extension of the range it introduced earlier in 2026.

Green across the dial and strap

The new dial has a sunray finish in a deep green that changes with the light, paired with gold-tone numerals, markers and hands. MONOGRIIS retains the RESTA's small-seconds register at six o'clock and the looped, Breguet-style hour hand that gives the design a recognisable profile. The dial is not an open-heart design; its mechanical movement is visible from the back instead. That separation leaves the front focused on colour, hand shapes and the small-seconds circle rather than trying to make every component visible at once.

A lizard-embossed leather strap in a similarly deep green makes this more than a dial swap. The embossing is a texture in leather, not a claim that the strap is made from lizard skin. MONOGRIIS fits a push-button butterfly deployant clasp and quick-release spring bars. The green-on-green treatment is strong enough to identify the Midori from across a display, while the bright case and gold-tone details keep it from reading as a single block of dark colour. The brand's photographs show the colour under different lighting, though they cannot promise it will look identical on every screen.

The RESTA's 316L stainless-steel case is 36 mm in diameter with a 45 mm lug-to-lug span. MONOGRIIS gives two thickness figures: approximately 10.5 mm for the case and approximately 13.9 mm including the raised, box-shaped sapphire crystal. That second figure is the one likely to matter when judging clearance beneath a cuff. The brand's choice of a high crystal gives the watch some of the profile of a mid-century dress piece, rather than making the compact diameter an exercise in being as thin as possible.

A vintage profile with modern glass

The box-shaped crystal is sapphire, and the screw-down display back also uses sapphire. Water resistance is stated at 5 ATM. The lugs rise gently away from the case, a detail MONOGRIIS highlights as part of the RESTA's 1950s-inspired silhouette. None of those dimensions or materials changes the purpose of this release: Midori is a colour and strap extension of an existing model. It would be misleading to call the 36 mm case, small-seconds layout or movement new to this particular watch.

That movement is Miyota's automatic calibre 8N40, with hand winding and approximately 42 hours of reserve when fully wound. The manufacturer says each watch is assembled and inspected in Japan. Through the sapphire back, the owner can see the movement without opening up the dial. For a watch at this price, the choice of a known Japanese automatic and a visible back is straightforward; the editorial interest lies more in how the maker has balanced a historically styled case with the saturated new dial and strap.

MONOGRIIS was founded in Osaka in 2018 and says it refocused on Japanese-assembled mechanical watches in 2026. The RESTA preceded Midori, so the new colour is a small development within that direction rather than a brand relaunch in itself. The company's announcement connects the hue to Japanese gardens and forests. That is a design reference, not something a buyer has to accept to appreciate the watch. The observable result is a dial that moves between darker and brighter greens as the angle of light changes.

The modest diameter and conspicuous box crystal pull in different visual directions: one reduces the watch's footprint, while the other gives it height and a distinctly vintage outline. The green strap then makes the colour choice feel intentional all the way around the wrist. If there is a reason to pay attention to this RESTA rather than the earlier black or ivory versions, it is that coherent use of colour, not a hidden technical change.

RESTA Midori R50M-001 pricing and availability

MONOGRIIS lists Midori at A$462 on its Australian storefront, ¥49,500 in Japan and US$350 in the United States. Those are the brand's regional list prices, with no currency conversion applied here. On 1 October, the brand's product page showed an active order button and its product data marked the watch available. That is a stock snapshot, not a promise of inventory when this article publishes. MONOGRIIS states free worldwide shipping and a one-year warranty. Its own store is the confirmed route for Australian buyers; the announcement does not name a local retailer.
